Cameroon joined other nine Africans who have booked a FIFA World Cup playoff spot by beating Cote d’Ivoire 1-0 in a tense clash on Tuesday evening.

Cameroon finished Group F with 15 points, two ahead of Cote d’Ivoire who had led the Indomitable Lions by one point before the game.

Cote d’Ivoire had needed just a draw to sail through to the final playoff round for a place at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Cameroon got off to a good start with striker Karl Toko Ekambi scoring from a close range in the 21st minute.

Cote d’Ivoire applied immense pressure when the game resumed for the second half but their efforts were in vain.

When the referee sounded the final whistle, the streets were flooded with young Cameroonian football fans celebrating the victory of a team they expect to perform well when the central African nation hosts the Africa Cup of Nations next year.

Cameroon will join nine other African countries for the FIFA World Cup playoff draw on December 18.

The 10 African countries that will fight off in the two-legged playoff set for March 2022 are:

1.Egypt

2.Morocco

3.Algeria

4.Tunisia

5.Democratic Republic of Congo

6.Ghana

7.Nigeria

8.Mali

9.Senegal

10. Cameroon
