Over 6,500 boxers from over 100 countries have assembled in Belgrade, Serbia, as AIBA Men’s World Boxing Championships opened Sunday during a grand ceremony also attended by thousands of fans.

The tournament will run until November 6.

Boxing Association of Serbia president Nenad Borovcanin, first man of the Amateur International Boxing Association (AIBA) Umar Kremlev, and Serbian sports minister Vanja Udovicic attended the ceremony, while among the special guests was former champion Roy Jones Junior.

Participants will compete in 13 weight categories – from 48kg to over 92kg.

The AIBA Men’s World Boxing Championships was inaugurated in 1974 in Havana, Cuba by the AIBA.
