Reports in Spain indicate that Chelsea are on the verge of signing striker Gonzalo Higuain in a move that could see Alvaro Morata move to Sevilla on loan until the end of the season.

Maurizio Sarri is desperate to bolster his attacking options in the January transfer window and the Argentina international is one of his preferred targets this month.

Chelsea have struggled for goals with Olivier Giroud and Morata firing blank, frustrating Sarri who now want to get a striker he can score loads of goals.

The Spanish striker, who picked up a hamstring injury ahead of last night’s 1-0 Carabao Cup semi-final defeat to Tottenham, has scored just five Premier League goals this season.

Higuain thrived under Sarri’s guidance at Napoli and broke the Serie A record with 37 goals in the 2015/16 season.

According to Marca, the pair will now be reunited once again as Higuain has ‘said yes’ to Chelsea’s offer.

Higuain is currently on loan at AC Milan although the 31-year-old has struggled for form with just eight goals in 20 appearances this season.

But Sarri is a huge admirer of Higuain and described the striker as a ‘goal machine’ earlier this season.

“I miss Higuain a great deal. I miss him because he’ll keep scoring goals until the day he dies,’ said the Chelsea manager. ‘He is a goal machine, a systematic and automatic jackpot.’
