Africa Cup of Nations football last 16 surprise package Comoros face uncertainty ahead of their game against host Cameroon.

Comoros football federation said on Saturday 12 members of their delegation have been tested positive for Covid-19 barely 48 hours to a decisive Africa Cup of Nations football (Afcon) encounter.

Team manager, El Hadad Himidi said in a statement that five staff members and seven players have been infected by the virus.

“The coach, Amir Abdou and our only two goalkeepers are among those who have tested positive,” Himidi said in a statement published on the federation’s twitter handle.

As first choice goalkeeper of the team Ben Boina suffered an injury in the tournament group stage, with the other two goalkeepers potentially ruled out with coronavirus, the country may not be able to field a goalkeeper.

“This is quite a difficult situation for us. We will have to do with what we have,” Hamidi said.

Comoros will play against hosts Cameroon on Monday in the knockout stage of the championship.

Comoros, who are making their first AFCON appearance shocked the world when they qualified for the knockout stage after beating one of world’s football giants, Ghana.
