LONDON, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) — Yalemzerf Yehualaw from Ethiopia improved the world record of women’s half marathon by 18 seconds after winning the Antrim Coast Half Marathon in 1:03:44 in Britain on Sunday.
Yehualaw finished second in a time of 1:04:40 in Istanbul, Turkey this April while Kenya’s world marathon champion Ruth Chepngetich won the race with a record-breaking time of 1:04:02.
The 22-year-old Ethiopian dominated Sunday’s race in Larne, Northern Ireland, leaving second-placed Jane Nyaboke more than six minutes behind in 1:09:45.
British runner Rose Harvey finished third in 1:10:29.
This competition was a World Athletics Label Road Race. The men’s event was won by Yehualaw’s compatriot Jemal Yimer in 1:00:30.
