MADRID, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) — Lionel Messi came off the substitutes’ bench to replace the injured Ansu Fati and help FC Barcelona to a 5-2 win at home to Real Betis on Saturday afternoon.

The Argentinian scored twice (once from the penalty spot), and helped Antoine Griezmann net Barca’s second of the game and Sergi Roberto to score their fourth.

The first half ended 1-1 after Ousmane Dembele put Barca ahead before Antonio Sanabria equalized for Betis after Griezmann had seen a penalty saved by Claudio Bravo.

The Frenchman put Barca back in front early in the second half and their task became much easier on the hour when Betis defender Aissa Mendi was sent off after handling Dembele’s goal-bound shot.

Messi scored his side’s second penalty and although Loren Moron gave Betis hope, Sergi Roberto and Pedro assured Barca’s first win in five league games, although a serious knee injury suffered by Ansu Fati took a lot of the sheen off the triumph.

Atletico Madrid ended Cadiz’s 100 percent start to the season and scored the first goals the recently promoted side have conceded on the road, as they won 4-0 in the Wanda Metropolitano stadium on Saturday night.

Joao Felix continued his fine recent form with a seventh minute header from a Marcos Llorente cross and rounded off the scoring with his second of the game in the 89th minute, with a goal that took Atletico top of the table on goal difference.

Llorente celebrated his call up to the Spain squad in the 22nd minute when he outfought Alex Fernandez to win the ball and then scored with his right foot. Luis Suarez made it 3-0 seven minutes after the break after VAR awarded a goal which had originally been ruled offside.
