BERLIN, April 3 (Xinhua) — Andre Silva’s late 2-1 winner helped Eintracht Frankfurt to establish a seven-point gap against top-four rivals Borussia Dortmund in the 27th round in Bundesliga on Saturday.

Both sides started highly motivated into the top-four clash and traded attacks in the opening stages.

Hence, it took only eleven minutes before the deadlock was broken as Nico Schulz deflected Filip Kostic’s cross into the wrong goal.

Frankfurt remained on the front foot after Silva’s close header forced Dortmund goalkeeper Marwin Hitz into action four minutes later.

The BVB responded through Erling Haaland, who missed the target from a tight angle in the 21st minute. The Norway international remained in the thick of things as he tested Frankfurt custodian Kevin Trapp moments later.

The hosts eventually restored parity just before the break as team captain Mats Hummels tapped home a loose ball following a corner to make it 1-1.

After the restart, both teams started where they left off as Daichi Kamada unleashed the first shot before Trapp had to be on guard to deny Raphael Guerreiro at the hour mark.

The visitors thought they had grabbed the lead in the 65th minute but Stefan Ilsanker’s goal was ruled offside.

Haaland kept Frankfurt’s defence busy but for all that Dortmund’s No.9 lacked accuracy in front of the visitor’s target.

The Eagles had the last laugh as Kostic’s pinpoint cross to the far post allowed Silva to nod home the decider and his 22nd goal of the season from a sharp angle with 87 minutes gone.

With the result, fourth-placed Eintracht Frankfurt sits seven points ahead of fifth-placed Borussia Dortmund.

Elsewhere, Bayer Leverkusen returned to winning ways after beating last-placed Schalke 2-1.

Third-placed Wolfsburg underlined its UEFA Champions League ambitions after edging relegation-threatened Cologne on Josip Brekalo’s sole goal.

Augsburg increased the distance to the drop zone after moving 2-1 past Hoffenheim while Mainz and newly promoted Arminia Bielefeld played out a 1-1 stalemate.
