The Gambian duo of Sainey Jawo and Mbye Babou Jarra are back on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour that serves off today, February 22, in Doha, Qatar.

The reigning African champions who are ranked third behind Qatar and Switzerland are going into the competition with optimism ahead of their second One-Star World Tour.

Jawo who will captain his partner Jarra knows the hard work ahead as the duo battle for the Tokyo Olympics ticket.

“Qatar are dominating in such a strong way, but there are so many good teams out there. But I think it’s something we can do, for sure,” Jawo said.

The resumption of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour will bring together 33 teams from 16 countries, representing all five continental confederations all at the Doha Beach Volleyball Cup.

A cash  prize of US$5,000 is up for grabs at the Al Gharrafa Beach Complex.

Being an Olympic qualifiers Jawo and Jarra’s trip is fully funded by Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC).
