Ugandan Premier League champions KCCA beat Maroons FC 2-1 in an entertaining league match played on Tuesday.
The hosts came into the match knowing a win could take them closer to runaway leaders Vipers SC with the defending champions were also looking at complete a double against a side they had defeated 3-1 in the first leg.
Mike Mutyaba opened the scoring for the home side in the 23rd minute after capitalizing on defensive lapses. It was a much-needed goal that reduced the pressure.
In the 38th minute, Kerizon Kizito picked Erisa Ssekisambu in a good area and the latter held his nerves to score the second.
Neither of the two sides could score another goal in the first half.
The Maroons came back stronger after the break, trying to fight and get an unlikely point against the experienced Taxmen.
Their efforts paid dividends in the 67th minute when Peter Magambo scored an own goal.
However, it turned out to be a consolation as KCCA held on to win the game and now stand at 44 points, two less than leaders Vipers SC who are on top of the table.
