Kenyan tennis star Angella Okutoy lost 6-3, 6-2 to top seed Emily Seibold of Germany in the final of W15 Nairobi World Tennis Tour at Karen Country Club in Nairobi on Sunday.

In a tournament that had brought together a total of 45 players from 21 countries, the former African Under-18 champion was on the verge of becoming the first ever Kenyan to win the international title but the German sensation cut short her dream.

Okutoyi had beaten second-seed Romeo Caroline of France 2- 1 (6- 2, 3-6, 7-6) in Saturday’s semifinals to book her final berth in the competitions.

The rising Kenya prodigy had defeated third-seed Emma Tothova of Slovakia in straight sets on Friday.

Despite losing in the final, there was something to celebrate about as Okutoyi had never gone past second round in eight W15 tournaments since making her debut in Nairobi in August 2019.

Okutoyi holds a career-high of 1501 in WTA Singles Rankings as her career path continues to take shape.

Following her recent heroincs in tennis, the Wimbledon Doubles Junior champion landed a three-year membership at Karen Country Club in August this year.

She will now start preparing for the second W15 Nairobi tournament scheduled for November 22-28 at the same venue.
