Suspended Betking Premier League sides Mathare United and Zoo FC will stay in the cold until February 2021 for a predetermined outcome in their ongoing suspension.

The two top tier league clubs failed to sign a controversial broadcast endorsement deal between Football Kenya Federation and broadcaster StarTimes before the commencement of 2020/21 BPL campaign in November.

They held firm that the federation in conjunction with the mentioned sponsors were directly violating the constitutional clubs rights, hence their reluctance in signing the deal.

Reigning champions Gor Mahia, their eternal rivals AFC Leopards, and Ulinzi Stars were also not in support of the particular agreement but eventually came to terms, with Ulinzi being the latest team to move with the wave of the multi-million-shilling endorsement.

The league organisers were forced to kick start the campaign with the exclusion of the defiant clubs before unleashing the punitive measure.

In relation to the matter, FKF President Nick Mwendwa is adamant, holding tight that the two clubs remain suspended until February next year even as the league enters match week four this weekend without them.

In a statement seen by Sports Africa, the football administrator Wednesday stated that every team taking part in the country’s top notch league had to sign the disputed broadcast endorsement prior the league opener, calling it an obligation.

“We have obligations to our partners, and as such, it was necessary for our members taking part in the top league to endorse this broadcast deal. Regrettably, despite extensive consultations between us and the two clubs (Mathare United and Zoo FC), they still didn’t sign.” He told the federation media team.

” For the smooth running of the league, we have thus suspended them, and shall have the decision before Congress for ratification in February next year”, Mwendwa added.

Meanwhile, the two affected teams will be crossing fingers until then to know their fate, even as the federation declared their players free agents following the suspension.
