Gabon captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the gift that keeps giving.

Weeks after he was stripped of the captaincy and banished from the first team at Arsenal, the Gabonese star is in the news again.

With just two days to the start of the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Camerron, Aubameyang is set to miss  Gabon’s opening Group C match against Comoros on Monday after he tested positive for Covid-19.

The 32 year old had been set to captain his country in the tournament where he was hoping to forget his woes at Arsenal.

While contracting Covid-19 is something that cannot be used against anyone, the manner in which the player is suspected to have conducted himself is worrisome.

It is reported that the player may have contracted the disease in a party in Dubai, days before the start of Afcon.

Aubameyang and his counry man   Mario Lemina who pliess  his trade at  Nice as a midfielder  returned positive lateral flow tests on arrival at Yaounde’s airport in Cameroon.

Coach Anicet Yala also tested positive. Gabon national team Head coach Patrice Neveu told AFP that the trio, who are all asymptomatic, are isolating in their hotel rooms and awaiting results of PCR tests.

The Gabon international may have thought that getting away for the Africa Cup of Nations may help him to over come his resent tribulation at the Emirates stadium, having  bean  frozen out of Mikel Arteta’s first-team squad.
