Moroccan Mohamed Moustahsane is among the seven candidates who’ve been cleared to run for the top position at the International Boxing Association (AIBA).

Moustahsane,  the former Moroccan national boxing team manager, is the only African on the list.

He is currently serving as the interim AIBA president after the incumbent Gafur Rahimov voluntarily stepped aside last year.

Going by the events of March 2019 when AIBA Executive Committee elected Moustahsane by (23-0) votes to serve as the AIBA Interim President, it is expected that the Moroccan will be among the front runners in the elections penciled for December 12 and 13.

The elections will be held virtually with Moustahsane facing off with six other candidates that ínclude German Al-Masri Ramie, Al Otaiba Anas of UAE, Russian Kremlev Umar, Mikayilov Suleyman from Azerbaijan, Solano Domingo (Dominican Republic) and Dutch Van der Vorst Boris.

“We had a very responsible mission to check each candidate’s eligibility carefully and accurately. We have no doubts that each of the seven nominees is a suitable candidate to serve as AIBA President in the case being elected. National Federations will make their choice on December 12th, and we will observe all the process to be in accordance with AIBA Statutes and Bylaws,” Bernhard Welten, the AIBA Election and Ethics Committee chairman, said.

Welten further claimed that all the candidates, who were nominated, are eligible to run for the position.

The election campaign kicked off on November 3rd and will last until the election day.
