Gor Mahia once again showed they are the undisputed kings of Mashemeji Derby after defeating their bitter rivals AFC Leopards by a solitary goal Sunday.

All eyes were on the 13-time league champions who have been on a good run as compared to their rivals K’Ogalo who have not been doing so well.

The hosts were keen on ending Gor Mahia’s jinx; the last time Ingwe defeated them was in March 2016 under the then coach Ivan Minnaert.

Despite a good start by the Anthony Kimani charges, the first real chance fell to captain Kenneth Muguna in the ninth minute. However, he headed just wide despite the goalkeeper being off his line.

Boniface Oluoch was saved by his defenders in the 20th minute when he failed to clear a Vincent Oburu shot.

Elvis Rupia made a follow up but the defenders were on a good place to ensure the ball does not hit the back of the net. The former Wazito FC striker was again called into action in the 24th minute but headed straight at Oluoch.

Ingwe were punished for failing to take their chances three minutes later.

A goalmouth melee ended with Boniface Omondi beating Benjamin Ochan from close range ensuring his team head to the break with a lead.

The inform Oluoch did well to deny Rupia who had raced clear in the 50th minute. The wasteful striker was once again at fault in the 65th minute when he failed to capitalize on a great opportunity with the custodian all but beaten.

Faulty defending in the 82nd minute allowed Ugandan striker Juma Balinya get a chance in the 18-yard area. However his feeble strike was cleared off the line by the defenders.

This was the 25th time the game had ended in a 1-0 scoreline by either side.
