Gor Mahia’s woes were compounded on Sunday when they fell 4-3 to Kariobangi Sharks in the BetKing Premier League.
K’Ogalo hoped to bounce back from an 8-1 aggregate loss to CR Belouizdad in CAF Champions League and the 2-1 loss to Tusker FC in league assignments. However, it did not happen as planned.
It took the Slum Boys just six minutes to score their first goal. Gor Mahia defenders failed to clear a dangerous ball from their area and Erick Kapaito took advantage to score his eighth goal of the season.
The Kenyan champions equalized in the 12th minute. Samuel Olwande was unfortunate to hit the woodwork as he desperately tried to clear the ball. The rebound kindly fell to Clifton Miheso who needed less energy to tap the ball into the net from close range.
Michael Apudo was once again at fault for Sharks’ second goal in the 17th minute. Daniel Sakari easily beat the left-back before beautifully curling the ball past Gad Mathews in Gor Mahia goal.
In the 36th minute, Kapaito was at it again, this time around, receiving the ball from the left wing and lobbing it past the custodian to complete his brace.
Substitute John Macharia reduced the deficit in the 50th minute when he received a good ball in the danger zone, took position before firing past Brian Bwire. Joachim Oluoch scored the equalizer in the 66th minute and by that point, K’Ogalo smelt a win.
But they were heart-broken by John Kuol who hit the winner in the 78th to stun the champions.
Meanwhile, Tusker bounced back to winning ways after defeating Kakamega Homeboyz by a solitary goal. The Brewers had drawn 0-0 with Wazito FC in their previous game.
Western Stima and Nzoia Sugar settled to a 1-1 draw at Sudi Stadium. The Powermen scored courtesy of Baron Oketch while Peter Wanjala replied for the hosts.
