Simba SC suffered a shock 1-0 loss against JKT Tanzania in Tanzania Mainland League.

Prior to Thursday’s meeting, Wekundu wa Msimbazi had never dropped points against their opponents, winning all the three matches they had played.

The last meeting between the two teams came in August 2019 and the defending champions claimed a 3-1 win away and the latest encounter was seen as a routine win for the Sven Vandenbroeck-led side owing to their good form in the league this season.

However, the visitors had a point to prove and it explains why they played cautiously and ensured they did not unnecessarily lose possession.

JKT were rewarded for their tactical play in the 24th minute when Adam Adam managed to find the back of the net with an excellent finish from a cross by the teammate.

It was a strike that gave Simba SC custodian no chance of stopping the ball from hitting the back of the net.

The 20-time champions intensified their tempo after the break in search of an equalizer and probably a winning goal, but JKT Tanzania held on to claim their maiden win against the champions.

This was the second time the league leaders are losing; the first time was a 3-0 loss to Mwadui in October 2019.

Simba remain top of the table with 50 points while Azam FC take the second position with 38.

Yanga SC are third with 16 points less after playing 18 matches, two less than their arch-rivals Simba.
