Al Ahly book date with Bayern after Al Duhail victory

Record Africa champions Al Ahly will play Bayern Munich in the semi final of the FIFA Club World Cup.

The Egyptians progressed to the next staged thanks to a  1-0 away victory against the Dubai side – Al Duhail, in Qatar.

Attacking midfielder Hussein El Shahat scored the only goal of the match at the half-hour mark to hand Ah Ahly a deserved lead that they jealously guarded for the next hour.

The victory came with a price to play the German and European champions in the next stage of the tournament.

The last time these two sides met was way back in 2012 when Bayern beat Ahly 2-1 in a friendly match.

Ahly has improved a lot ever since. The Egyptian giants and Africa football powerhouse is yet to lose a competitive game since December 2020 when they were surprised by Ghazl El Mehalla in a league match.

The clash against Bayern is set for February 8 at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium in Qatar.

But before that, there will be a second semi final clash between Palmeiras and Tigres  on 7 February.

The  Mexicans, who are the winner of the CONCACAF Champions League, saw off Ulsan Hyundai FC from South Korea 2-1 in the other quarter final.

Ulsan are the winners of the AFC Champions League.

The final will take place on 11 February (kick-off: 19:00 CET) at the Education City Stadium.

FC Bayern have the historic chance to become the second club after Barcelona (2009) to win all six domestic and international titles within one calendar year.
