Michael Olunga’s 12 goal of the season was a’ double tragedy’ for Spanish Internal Andrés Iniesta who helplessly watched as Kashiwa Reysol came from behind to snatch all the three points in a Japanese League.
Olunga who netted 27 goals last season made it a dozen Wednesday in Reysol’s 3-2 victory over Vissel Kobe in the J1 League.
Kobe were the first to hit the net through Yuta Guke just at the stroke of half time but Reysol had the last laugh at the final whistle.
Hayato Nakama levelled for Reysol before Kenyan international Olunga doubled the scores only for Brazilian star Douglas Costa to level things up for the promoted side in the 89th minute.
Japanese Matoshi Mihara put the last nail on Kobe’s coffin with a 94th match winning goal that pushed Reysol to fifth on the log.
Kobe suffered a first casualty after former Barcelona star Iniesta was stretched off the field with an injury and he could not help but watch his side go down as Olunga starred in a dramatic match.
Kashiwa Reysol have 19 points from 11 matches.
Olunga’s goal will see him head to the weekend as the leading scorer for the second week running. The Kenyan can only hope that he will carry his scoring boots to the Sunday’s match against Oita Trinita.
Japanese league has been a good ground for the lanky Harambee Stars forward who was second in the goal scoring chart in the second division where his contribution saw Reysol gain promotion back to the top tier.
Iniesta must have heard of the name Olunga even before he stepped out for the duel. This is the man who inked his name in the history books in Spain where he became the first Girona FC player to score a hat trick in a La Liga match.
Olunga has also scored 11 international goals for the national team, Harambee Stars, two of them at the 2019 Africa Cup of nations in Cairo, Egypt.
Before he left Kenya for Sweden, Olunga finished as the Kenyan Premier League top scorer, helping Gor Mahia to lift the league title in 2015.
