Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama has purchased a bus for his former club.
The “Lion of Muthurwa” bought a 40-sitter bus for his childhood club, Country Bus FC, that is based at the Muthurwa estate in Nairobi where he honed his footballing skills in his formative years.
“I can never run away from the fact that I was born and bred in Muthurwa and that Country Bus FC nurtured my talent. I am happy to give back to the team in a small way and hope this will be the beginning of the team’s ascendancy to the top.
“Muthurwa is also known for producing good boxers and this bus will also serve them whenever they are traveling for games or whatever functions they have,” Wanyama was quoted by the Nation Sport.
The bus that was bought in London is currently in Nairobi for fitting before it is handed over to the club that will share it with Muthurwa Boxing Club.
Wanyama also plans to set up a sports complex in his county home, Busia.
The academy will provide facilities for training and talent development in football, volleyball, basketball and squash, among others.
The complex will sit on a 20-acre piece of land on the outskirts of Busia town, approximately 500km west of Nairobi.
This comes after the Harambee Stars skipper recently offered to pay school secondary school fees to two needy but bright and talented players.
The scholarships, offered through Victor Wanyama Foundation, target a boy and a girl who scored over 400 marks in the 2019 KCPE (end of primary level test).
