MADRID, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) — Real Madrid could be without Spain international right-back Dani Carvajal for several weeks after the defender suffered another muscle injury in Sunday’s 2-1 win away to Valencia.
Carvajal asked for a change after less than half an hour of the game, complaining of a problem in his right calf muscle. Although the club carried out tests on Monday morning, they have not published details of the extent of the injury due to the player asking for his right to privacy over a medical issue to be respected.
Sunday is the latest in a series of problems that have affected Carvajal over the past year after a series of problems (five in total) limited him to just 15 first-team appearances totaling 1,119 minutes last season.
He also missed the first game of the current campaign after picking up another injury in pre-season, making his debut as a substitute in the second round of matches in Real Madrid’s 3-3 draw away to Levante and he started his club’s last four matches.
Carvajal’s injury means that Lucas Vazquez, who covered in defense last season, will start in Wednesday’s league game at home to Mallorca, Saturday’s match at home to Villarreal and next week’s Champions League tie against FC Sheriff Tiraspol.
MADRID, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) — Dani Carvajal’s 61st minute goal gave Real Madrid a narrow 1-0 win on their difficult trip to Betis on Saturday night.
The full back’s diagonal volley from the corner of the penalty area was a reward for Madrid’s better finishing in a game where Betis played a better first half.
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti made changes to his starting 11 with young left back Miguel in for the injured Nacho Fernandez with David Alaba moving into central defense and Vinicius Jr getting the reward for three goals in two games with a start ahead of Eden Hazard.
Real Madrid’s goal came after Aitor Ruibal and Juanmi had wasted a chance on the break for Betis.
Athletic Club Bilbao remain unbeaten and claimed their first win of the season after Inaki Williams’ first-half strike gave them a 1-0 win away to Celta Vigo. Williams finished well after Oihan Sancet’s assist and was unlucky to see a second half goal ruled out by referee Mateu Lahoz.
Ander Barrenetxea’s deflected shot was enough to see Real Sociedad beat Levante 1-0 win to give them their second narrow home win in a week.
Elche gave another well organized performance to take a 1-1 draw at home to Sevilla and end the visitors’ 100 percent start to the campaign.
Enzo Roco opened the scoring for Elche in the 11th minute and last season’s top scorer Youssef En-Neysri leveled for Sevilla five minutes before the break. New signing Rafa Mir had a great chance in injury time, but his header went over the bar.
The round of matches kicked off on Friday night with Mallorca winning 1-0 at home to Espanyol, who have not scored in any of their first three games back in the top flight, while Valencia continue their positive start to the campaign with a 3-0 win at home to Alaves, who have started the campaign with three defeats.
MADRID, April 29 (Xinhua) — Real Madrid right back Dani Carvajal has said goodbye to the rest of the season after his club on Thursday confirmed he has suffered yet another injury in a season ruined by physical problems.
Carvajal was making just his second appearance after two months out in Madrid’s 1-1 draw at home to Chelsea in the Champions League on Tuesday night when he suffered the injury and after tests, the club informed that he has “been diagnosed with an injury to the semimembranosus muscle in his right left”.
Although the communique only says Carvajal’s “recovery will be monitored,” the nature of the problem means he will be sidelined for at least three weeks and will miss the rest of Real Madrid’s campaign.
This injury and his injury-affected campaign has limited him to just 13 appearances in La Liga and two in the Champions League and also puts his place in this summers European Championships in doubt.
With Lucas Vazquez also out for the season with a knee injury, Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane now has to choose whether to move Nacho Fernandez from central defense to the right or to put more faith in Alvaro Odriozola, who he has only used as a last resort, or he could even use midfielder Fede Valverde as a makeshift wingback.
Real Madrid face Osasuna in La Liga on Saturday evening before their vital Champions League semifinal return leg in Stamford Bridge next Wednesday.
MADRID, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) — Real Madrid suffered an important injury blow on Friday when it was confirmed that right back Dani Carvajal injured a ligament in his right knee during the club’s morning training session.
The injury was confirmed shortly after Spain coach Luis Enrique had named the defender in his squad to play Portugal, Switzerland and Ukraine in the coming days.
Early indications are that Carvajal could be out of action for up to two months, which means as well as the forthcoming internationals, he will also have to sit out this weekend’s La Liga trip to play Levante, and league matches against Cadiz, Huesca, Valencia and Villarreal.
He will also miss the first four Champions League group matches in which Real Madrid line up against Inter Milan, Shakhtar Donetsk and Borussia Monchengladbach following Thursday’s draw.
Carvajal’s injury will allow Alvaro Odriozola the chance to establish himself in the side.
The defender signed from Real Sociedad two years ago has struggled to find game time with Carvajal ahead of him in the pecking order and spent part of last season on loan at Bayern Munich.
