Kenya Under-23 international Sven Yidah who at one time was linked with a move to Tanzanian giants Yanga SC has joined Nairobi City Stars.
Yidah, a defensive midfielder, joined City Stars on a two-year deal from Kenyan Premier League side Kariobangi Sharks.
He is best remembered for his trademark celebration against English Premier League side Everton after scoring a delicious goal from the spot during the SportPesa Cup match between the Toffees and Sharks at the Kasarani Sports Complex in Nairobi last year.
Following his outstanding performance at the tournament, Yidah was reportedly on the rader of Young Africans (Yanga) even though the deal did not materialise.
He joined Sharks in 2016 from Ligi Ndogo Academy and went ahead to make 79 appearances for the club.
Yidah will reunite with his former teammates Ebrima Sanneh, Salim Abdalla and Wycliffe Otieno, the trio whom he said played a huge role in convincing him to join City Stars.
Yidah now becomes the second player after Erick Ombija to join City Stars’ senior team rank.
The two add on to Timothy Puma (Kaiser Hill), Rowland Makati (Vipor Sports), Ronny Kola (Kenya School of Government) and goalkeeper Elvis Ochomo who signed from Hakatu Sportif — all who were brought in as developmental players.
According to the club, the new catch will don his preferred jersey number 18 that denotes his birth date as well as that of his daughter — the jersey number that was owned by club legend Arthur Museve.
Museve religiously put on jersey number 18 between 2006/7 season all through to his retirement at the close of the 2018/19.
