Modeste M’Bami, former Cameroon and PSG star, dies of heart attack at 40

Former Cameroon and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Modeste M’Bami passed away on Saturday aged 40 after suffering a fatal  heart attack.

Modeste, who also played for Marseille won 37 caps for Indomitable Lions. Following his demise, French giants PSG sent their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

“Paris Saint-Germain is in mourning. Modeste M’Bami has passed away at the age of 40 after suffering a heart attack,” the club said in a statement. “PSG offers heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.”

M’Bami won the Coupe de France with the Parisian club in 2004 and 2006. In his tenure with Cameroon, he scored three goals in 37 appearances for his national team. He was also part of the Cameroon team that bagged gold at the Sydney Olympics in 2000.

Away from French and Cameroonian football, M’Bami also played professional football in Spain, China and Saudi Arabia.

He retired from active football in 2016 following a short spell at Le Havre.
