Action returns to Ruiru as Lady Captain’s Prize tees off Saturday

Action resumes Saturday at Ruiru Sports Club as the Lady Captain’s Prize tees off.

After hosting one of the biggest golfing events in the country this year last weekend — the Captain’s Prize — the Thika Road-based facility will once again host nearly 250 golfers.

This will mark the end of a one year tenure for Mary Muthoni, a seasoned golfer who took over in April last year after serving an a Vice Lady Captain the previous year.

“It’s an exciting way to sign out after being in the thick of things for the past year. We are looking forward for an excellent tournament,” she Ms Muthoni.

The Captain’s Prize, which was held in honour of the outgoing golf captain Peter Mwaura, attracted 261 golfers.

The event was sponsored by KCB Bank Kenya and a host of other partners.

The Lady Captain’s tourney will be sponsored by, among others, Landmark Motors, Coca-Cola and Radiant Group of Hospitals.

Last weekend’s top performers like Fr James Kinuthia, Kimani Munyua, Isaac Nguku, Lucy Kwendo and Irene Wamoro will be hoping to defend their wins.

The event has drawn in golfers from other clubs across Kenya, with an array of prizes on offer.

Several local professional golfers are also expected to grace the event with top prize money of KSh50,000.

Last weekend, Simon Ngige topped the charts during the Captain’s Prize, beating seven others.

The 2020 Captain’s Prize golf tournament held at the Ruiru Sports Club’s Par 72 course Saturday produced scintillating finishes.

KCB Group’s Director of Regional Business  Paul Russo applauded the club for a brilliant event, saying the bank will continue to invest in golf in a bid to nurture fresh talent.

“It was an exciting day at the course for the golfers. As KCB Group, we are pleased that our sponsorship novelty in golf continues to impact golf skills of our local pros as well as amateurs,” said Mr Russo.

Over 280 golfers teed off at the event that ran perfectly over the 18 hole golf course.

Ruiru Sports Club Captain Peter Mwaura termed the tournament a success, adding this will form the basis for even bigger events.

“The next five years are crucial for us; we want to take the club to higher heights and offer unrivaled golf experience for the golfers,” said Mwaura.

There were raucous celebrations during the awards ceremony as clergyman as Fr. James Kinuthia carded 42 points to be crowned the overall winner.

Hard-hitting Ruiru Sports Club member  Kimani Munyua was also a happy man after carding 40 points during the event.

It’s all systems go as the 2020 Captain Prize Golf Tournament tees off at Ruiru Sports Club Saturday.

The event that is sponsored by KCB Bank will see 310 golfers battle it out at the par 72 Ruiru Sports Club.

Thika-based Simon Ngige, Silvan Muthugia, Jastas Madoya, Paul Thuo, Alfred Nandwa, Samuel Kamau, and  Kopan Timbe are some of the pros who will be in contention for top prizes.

Ruiru Sports Captain Peter Mwaura  expressed his delight as the tournament kicks off.

“It is exciting to see the diverse sponsors that have come on board to support the event; as we seek to redefine golfing experience, ” said Mr Mwaura.

There was a curtain-raiser event on Friday evening that saw handicap 19 David Kibui card 41 points top emerge victorious after sinking a birdie on par-four hole 1.

The curtain-raiser event was co-sponsored by Oxygene Marketing and Communication LTD, Isuzu, TEK and Occidental Insurance.

” We are proud to have sponsored today’s event, we will keep on supporting golf events in the region to hone our budding talents,” said Mutahi Oxygene MCL Partner.

The event is in honor of the current Club Captain, Peter Mwaura, whose second term in charge is about to end.

“We are grateful to KCB Bank for their support over the years to our club. Their support will go a long way in motivating the golfers to battle for top honours on Saturday, “said Mr Mwaura.

 The select category includes awards for former captains from any club(lady/man), current captains, clergymen, neighbouring clubs of Thika, Kiambu, Thika Greens, Machakos, Nyeri, and Nyahururu with prizes for reciprocating and other clubs.

The main category will have the overall prize for the winner, men A (HC 0-15) and B (HC 16-28), ladies bronze and silver categories, and four sponsor prizes.

KSh6.4 million Isuzu Mux up for grabs in Ruiru Isuzu EA Golf Tourney

Leading local car assembler Isuzu EA heads to Ruiru Sports Club for a tournament that promises intense golf action.

Up for grabs is a brand new  Isuzu Mux for the hole-in-one prize and a buffet of other top prizes across categories.

Over 250 golfers who are expected at the par 72 course will be praying that lady luck smiles on them at the hole no 3  to win the KSh6.4 million car.

Speaking about the event which is one of the biggest of the back to back golf sponsorships, Ruiri Golf Captain Peter Mwaura said: “The car is a huge motivation to the growing field of golfers and this is one of the best golf tournaments we have staged in Ruiru as we seek to take the golfing experience to another level.”

The event will give golf enthusiasts another chance to prove their mettle on the green. The new-look Isuzu Mux is a stand out performer on and off-road with the legendary Isuzu 3-litre turbo diesel engine, a beefed up 430Nm of torque and an intuitive six-speed transmission.

Some of the players expected to put up a strong fight are recent winners Dr Ben Kanyi, Tabitha Kiragu and the Club’s Vice Chairman  Ben Ndungu who posted impressive score last weekend during the Oxygene Communications and Marketing Golf Day. Others include Kinyua Muchiri, Stephen Mwitari and Jane Kanari.

Golfers from clubs across the country have been drawn for the tournament which is part of Isuzu’s golf series.
