Juve continue winning streak, Roma edge past Verona
Juve suffered a frustrating 1-1 tie against French Ligue 1 side Nantes in the Europa League play-off midweek, so Massimiliano Allegri rotated the line-up for the second leg by throwing on Moise Kean to pair up with Dusan Vlahovic on the forward line while Mattia Perin was preferred over Wojciech Szczesny between the sticks.
Vlahovic’s goal in the 17th minute was disallowed due to offside, but the Bianconeri eventually went ahead in the 32nd minute when Filip Kostic rolled across from the left and Kean cushioned it in with a first-time volley.
The home side then put together waves of attack but Perin provided a string of saves to keep the scoreline down, while at the end Angel Di Maria came off the bench to seal the win with a missile out of the box.
With the victory, Juve climbed to seventh with 32 points but are still 12 points off fourth place AC Milan.
Elsewhere, new arrival Ola Solbakken jumped at the chance in his first start for Roma as the Norwegian slid it in before the interval, earning the Giallorossi a precious victory.
Also on Sunday, Luis Alberto missed a spot-kick, but Ciro Immobile’s double still allowed Lazio to sail away with a 2-0 victory over Salernitana.
In Sunday’s other fixtures, Lecce stunned Atalanta 2-1, and Fiorentina shared the spoils with Empoli at 1-1.

Vlahovic inspires Juventus past Spezia in Serie A
Dusan Vlahovic well taken free kick helped Juventus beat Spezia 2-0 in Serie A on Wednesday.
Juve had had a shaky start to the new Serie A season, with a 3-0 victory over Sassuolo followed by back-to-back draws against Sampdoria and Roma.
The Bianconeri began the game still without Leonardo Bonucci, Paul Pogba and Federico Chiesa, while Leandro Paredes showed up in the stands after completing his loan move from Paris Saint-Germain.
Vlahovic had sent Juve ahead in the Roma game with a stunning free-kick, and on Wednesday night the Serbian did likewise with another spectacular in the eighth minute.
The Old Lady were dealt a blow before the interval as goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny was stretchered off, making way for Mattia Perin.
New arrival Arkadiusz Milik proved his value deep into stoppage time, as the Pole collected the ball from the right before spinning around to fire home.
Elsewhere, Lorenzo Colombo missed a penalty but atoned for his error by smashing in a blockbuster, helping Lecce to draw 1-1 with Napoli.
Also on Wednesday, Manolo Gabbiadini’s last-gasp goal canceled out Ciro Immobile’s opener, as Lazio had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Sampdoria.
In other fixtures, Udinese edged Fiorentina 1-0, while Empoli and Hellas Verona played out a 1-1 draw.
Inter trash Spezia at San Siro in Serie A
Former champions Inter Milan dominated Spezia with a 3-0 victory in their home debut of the new Serie A season on Saturday.
Inter opened the season with a slender 2-1 away victory over Lecce last week. Coach Simone Inzaghi opted for Romelu Lukaku to partner Lautaro Martinez on the forward line on Saturday while Nicolo Barella stood in the middle of the park.
The Nerazzurri was utterly dominant from the very beginning, breaking the deadlock in the 35th minute when Barella’s long pass over the top found Lukaku, who nodded for Lautaro to release a missile out of the box.
Lukaku almost got the second before the break, but the Belgian saw his header hit the woodwork.
The home side extended the lead six minutes into the second half as the give-and-go between Lukaku and Milan Skriniar was blocked, but Hakan Calhanoglu followed to finish a daisy-cutter.
Inter sealed the win in the 82nd minute when Edin Dzeko dribbled to draw out the goalkeeper before squaring for Joaquin Correa to find the net.
Inter temporarily sat on the top with six points.
Elsewhere, Sassuolo beat Lecce 1-0. Domenico Berardi, who just had signed an extension to his contract with the Neroverdi, proved his value by smashing in a stunning volley to unlock the game.
In other fixtures, Torino shared the spoils with Lazio 0-0, while Udinese also played out a goalless tie with Salernitana.
Milan edges Spezia with Maldini’s maiden goal
ROME, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) — Daniel Maldini made most of his rare start for AC Milan as his maiden goal helped his side edge Spezia 2-1 away on Saturday.
Milan entered Saturday’s game with Olivier Giroud’s return, while Maldini got his first Serie A start since his debut for the senior team in February 2020.
After a goalless first half, the Rossoneri made tactic changes by throwing on Rafael Leao and Pietro Pellegri after the break, and it quickly made an impact in the 48th minute as Pierre Kalulu whipped in a cross from the right, and Maldini jumped to steer his header into the net, with his father Paolo cheering for him in the stands.
Spezia got back on level terms in the 80th minute as Daniele Verde’s mazy run allowed him to cut inside to unleash a daisy-cutter which took a deflection to wrong-foot goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
The away side then strengthened the attack by hauling off Franck Kessie for Brahim Diaz, which proved decisive as the Real Madrid loanee scored the winner just four minutes after coming off the bench.
The other team of the Milan city, Inter Milan drew with Atalanta in a dramatic 2-2 stalemate at San Siro.
Lautaro Martinez continued his fearsome form as he broke the deadlock for the Nerazzurri five minutes into the game, Ruslan Malinovskyi and Rafael Toloi’s goals helped the away side turn around the game, before Edin Dzeko tapped in the rebound.
Both sides had the chances to seal the win, but Inter player Federico Dimarco’s penalty smacked the bar while at the other end Roberto Piccoli’s goal was disallowed by VAR.
AC Milan temporarily ranks on the top of the table with 16 points, one ahead of Napoli who hosts Cagliari on Sunday, while Inter Milan places third.
Also on Saturday, Genoa tied with Hellas Verona in a 3-3 thriller.
Juve snatches first win in Serie A
ROME, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) — Juventus finally claimed its first victory in the new Serie A season, after a 3-2 thriller over Spezia on Wednesday.
The Old Lady had a poor start to the season, just collecting two points in the opening four rounds.
With Federico Chiesa back to action, Moise Kean starting at center-forward, Juve broke the deadlock in the 28th minute as Adrien Rabiot nodded a Leonardo Bonucci’s long pass for Kean, who smashed in on the edge of the box, scoring the first goal since his return.
The home side got back on level terms minutes later when Emmanuel Gyasi’s scorcher curled into the top corner, and he imitated ex-Juve star Cristiano Ronaldo’s celebration.
Spezia turned around the game straight after the break, as Janis Antiste shook off Bonucci’s defense to finish with a daisy-cutter.
In a desperate bid to avoid another defeat, Juve fought back as Chiesa won back possession and found the net in the 66th minute before Matthijs De Ligt scored the winner four minutes later.
“The most important thing is we won and I’m pleased because we had to dig in to get it. We’ll savor this win now and from tomorrow we’ll concentrate on trying to win our first game at home,” said Juve’s coach Massimiliano Allegri.
Elsewhere, Theo Hernandez scored one and set up another, helping AC Milan extend its unbeaten run as it conquered Venezia 2-0. The Rossoneri now levels with Inter Milan on 13 points but ranks second on inferior goal difference. Empoli won Cagliari 2-0 away, and Salernitana drew with Hellas Verona 2-2.
