Boxscore: DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania – November 24, 2021 – The Dar es Salaam Derby, popularly known as the Kariakoo Derby, pitting two of Tanzania’s football giants – Simba and Yanga  – is the biggest derby in the East African region.
Whenever these two two teams lock horns, Dar es Salaam comes to a standstill and the line is drawn right across the city.

Already four Kariakoo derbies has been played so far this year but still the enthusiasm for the fifth derby is at its peak among the fans of the two teams as they wait for the big day with bated breath.

It is scheduled for December 11, but the talk is already ripe in Dar es Salaam as if it were hours away, which is an indication of the magnitude that this match carries.
There is no love lost whenever the two teams cross swords even though Yanga have more victories than Simba in the head-to-head showdowns.
Since 1966, the two teams have met 105 times wherein Yanga have won 37 times against Simba’s 32 wins while 36 derbies have ended in draws.
As indicated earlier, already the two Tanzania’s football giants have played against each other four times this year alone with the first match going to Yanga after winning through penalties to clinch the Mapinduzi Cup earlier this year.
Yanga emerged victorious in their second meeting this year winning 1-0 in the Tanzania Premier League first round match.
Simba managed to get a consolation victory in their third encounter by beating their rival 1-0 to clinch the Azam Cup.

Yanga had the last laugh in the most recent match between the two football rivals. The December 11 will be of great significance for the league and will decide who will win the league this year.

However, whatever the result, Kariakoo Derby will always remain the biggest sporting event that captures Tanzania’s imagination.

As always,  expect a full house painted green and yellow for Young Africans and Red for Simba.
