Even with no matches taking place this past week, there were still many news stories as the clubs of LaLiga Santander continue to plan for next season by making signings. The teams now know the fixture list for 2022/23, while Athletic Club will go into the new season with a new president.

The 2022/23 fixture list is revealed

Fans of Spanish clubs now know the order of their teams’ matches for the 2022/23 season. The fixture list was drawn this past week, with the first round of the new LaLiga Santander season to take place on the weekend of August 14th, with standout matches including LaLiga SmartBank champions UD Almería vs LaLiga Santander champions Real Madrid, a Madrid Derby in Getafe CF vs Atlético de Madrid and FC Barcelona vs Rayo Vallecano.

ElClasico will take place in October and in March

With the announcement of the 2022/23 calendar, we also know when the big derby matches and ElClasico will be held this coming season. The first meeting between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona of the new league campaign will be on the weekend of October 16th at the Bernabéu, while the return game at the Camp Nou will be on the weekend of March 19th 2023.

Jon Uriarte is the new president of Athletic Club

Athletic Club held its presidential elections on Friday and the winner was Jon Uriarte. A total of 23,506 ballots were cast by the members of Athletic Club, with Uriarte and his project – which includes a return for former coach Ernesto Valverde – receiving 10,979 votes, 47% of all votes cast.

José Luis Morales is staying in LaLiga Santander

José Luis Morales is going to keep playing at LaLiga Santander level, with the talented Spanish forward making the move up the coast to Villarreal CF. Although he suffered relegation with Levante UD last season, Morales was one of the best scorers in the competition as he netted 13 times, taking his overall LaLiga Santander tally to 63 goals from 254 games. In 2022/23, he’ll look to add to that while wearing yellow.

Australia international Awer Mabil signs for Cádiz CF

Cádiz CF have made a very intriguing signing by bringing in Australian winger Awer Mabil. The 26-year-old, who recently helped the Socceroos qualify for the 2022 World Cup, was presented in his home country by the LaLiga Santander club.

Real Valladolid present a new club badge

Real Valladolid will be back in LaLiga Santander this coming season and they’re returning to Spain’s top division with a new look. The club unveiled a new-look badge and brand identity, one that looks modern but which is inspired by the club badges of the past as a tribute to the team’s traditions.

Portu switches to Getafe CF

Getafe CF have made an exciting signing by acquiring Cristian Portugués, better known as Portu. He is moving to the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez on loan from Real Sociedad and will represent his fifth different club in Spain, after he previously played for Valencia CF, Albacete BP, Girona FC and the Basque side.

Real Madrid present Antonio Rüdiger

Antonio Rüdiger has been officially presented as a Real Madrid player. The German centre-back had his medical and signed his contract at Valdebebas last Monday, before speaking to the media about his excitement at moving from Chelsea to Real Madrid.

Valencia CF present the Nou Mestalla stadium project

Valencia CF held an event on Thursday to unveil the club’s plans for their new stadium, called Nou Mestalla. The club explained that the venue will boast a ground-breaking photovoltaic solar panelled roof and have an eventual capacity for 70,000 fans.
