Vipers SC survived a scare from BUL FC to claim a 3-2 win and open a five-point lead on top of the Uganda Premier League.
Tito Okello was the star man as he grabbed a hat-trick, his first for the club, including a late winner to hand the Venoms a vital win.
The hosts will feel let down by concentration lapses which allowed the league leaders to claim maximum points on Sunday.
The five-goal thriller started as soon as the 18th minute; Okello was brought down in the danger zone by Denis Okot and the referee awarded the visitors a penalty. The striker kept his nerves to open the scoring and hand his team a deserved opener.
A good run in the 28th minute ended with Fabine Mutombora setting up Okello. The forward spotted Sanon Mulabi desperately trying to come out for the ball and chipped it over him to double the advantage.
BUL upped their tempo and were rewarded in the 30th minute courtesy of Fredson Gwoto. The player managed to get the ball in a good position and managed to half the deficit.
Three minutes later, a gross mistake allowed the hosts to get an equalizer through Robert Mukongotya.
However, Okello was not done, he managed to get past the defenders and score what turned out to be the winner and take his team’s points tally to 49, five more than second-placed KCCA.
SC Villa complete the top three with 37 points.
