Tanzania Mainland League finally resumed on Saturday June 13 after about three months’ break.

The first match brought together the 27-time league champions Yanga SC away to Mwadui in Shinyanga. The match had been postponed owing to Timu ya Wananchi’s participation in the Caf Champions League.

It took the Luc Eymael-led charges just six minutes to prove they mean business. Haruna Niyonzima managed to beat his marker Jaffar Mohammed. A good cross was brought in by the latter but the goalkeeper denied Ditram Nchimbi from finding the back of the net.

However, the rebound kindly fell to Deus Kaseke who teed Balama Mapinduzi, and the forward managed to beat goalkeeper Mahmoud Amri. It turned up to be the only goal of the match.

Kaseke could have bagged a brace of assists but Ivorian striker Gnamien Yikpe shot embarrassingly wide with just the goalkeeper to beat.

Yanga remain third with 54 points, same as second placed Azam FC who enjoy a superior statistical record.

Fourth-placed Namungo threw their advantage to draw 2-2 with Coastal Union.

Namungo scored their goals in the first half courtesy of George Makanga and Abeid Athuman.

However, the hosts fought back and equalized through Issa Abushehe and  Hance Msonga.

Namungo remain fourth with 51 points while Coastal Union are fifth with five points less.
