Yanga SC moved second in Tanzania Mainland League table after defeating Ndanda FC 3-2 in an entertaining game staged at National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The Jangwani-based side had won just one game after the league restart, drawing the rest but on Saturday, they had everything to play for.
Ditram Nchimbi picked Deus Kaseke in the danger zone after just six minutes, and the latter perfectly headed the ball past the custodian to give the Luc Eymael-led charges a deserved opener.
The lead, however, lasted just four minutes as the Mtwara-based side pulled level courtesy of Abdul Hamisi. The forward managed to cleverly get past the defenders before unleashing a powerful strike which beat Kenya custodian Faruk Shikhalo at his near post.
Five minutes later, it was 2-1 in favour of the visitors. Kelvin Yondani brought down Vitalis Mayanga and Omary Mponda rose to the occasion to give his side a deserved lead.
The winner for the 27-time league champions came in the 73rd minute. Substitute Abdul Jafari picked fellow substitute Mrisho Ngasa who made no mistakes from three yards.
Meanwhile, Azam FC conceded late away to Biashara United to draw 1-1 and drop to the third position with 59 points, one less than second placed Yanga.
Frank Domayo had given the FA Cup champions an early lead; it looked like it would be the only goal in the match until late stages of the game when Gershon Kabeja scored the equalizer.
In another match, hosts Alliance FC needed a Martin Kiggi strike to seal maximum points against Coastal Union.
