South African referee Victor Gomes will take charge of the Africa Cup of Nations final between Algeria and Senegal.

He replaces Ethiopian Bamlak Tessema who had been given the honour to officiate in the final game.

According to CAF it wouldn’t make sense for a referee to officiate in a semi final followed by a final as it has never happened in the history of the competition.

Bamlak Tessema was the center referee in the match involving Senegal and Tunisia at the 30 June Stadium on Sunday.

All eyes will be on Gomes on Friday evening after he made a controversial call in a game involving Ghana and Tunisia in the round of 16.
