Kenya’s Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has aimed a dig at the Football Kenya Federation for lack of vision.

Talking to local media on Wednesday, Namwamba promised to improve the status of Football Kenya Federation Premier League after it emerged that the league organisers did not have prize money for this season’s  champions.

Football environment  in Kenya has lately been grappling with serious financial constraints after a host of sponsors bolted out of the industry owing to various challenges like heavy taxation and lack of mutual agreement  with the federation.

However, Namwamba has pledged a bumper package for the country’s top tier league starting next season, pumping more money into the competition as well as  broadcasting live matches.

“I promise you, we are putting together a mega package, a package that has never been seen before ahead of the start of the next Kenya Premier League(FKFPL) season that will include a live broadcast of football, that will include significant sponsorship money going to the pockets of clubs and therefore the bags of players that is part of what we’re putting together under this Talanta Hela program,” the CS said.

“The announcement by the FKF president, Nick Mwendwa, has once again demonstrated a lack of vision by the federation. This has dampened the morale and spirits of hard-working players, to say the least.”

“The regrettable news has left many questioning the FKF’s commitment to developing the sport in the country.”

Meanwhile, the Football Kenya Federation administration has once again come under criticism for trying to kill the game by failing to award league champions.

Honouring any FKF sanctioned match in Kenya comes at a heavy cost as teams are forced to travel across different counties. The burden has in many occasions seen FKF Premier League clubs such as Vihiga United dish out points for failing to show up for their scheduled fixtures.
