The CAF Confederation Cup match between Tanzania side Namungo FC and Primeiro de Agosto of Angola has been called off, as CAF now investigates a suspected case of Covid-19 positive test said to have been reported on the entire Tanzanian delegation.

The entire Namungu playing unit and technical bench was sent for mandatory quarantine in a military barracks by the Angolan authority as soon as the outcome of the Covid-19 test came out.

Tanzania has never admitted the existence of coronavirus.

Namungo arrived in Angola on Friday to play their final Caf Confederation Cup preliminary game against Agosto but all players were subjected to Covid-19 tests.

The move didn’t go down well with the Tanzania football body who released a statement seeking clarification on the matter.

“TFF is closely following up on why Namungo was quarantined by the Angola authorities immediately after undergoing the mandatory Covid-19 tests,” read a statement by the Tanzanian FA.

“Later on, the authorities directed the whole team to be quarantined in the military premises which contravene the Confederation of African Football (Caf) directives,” TFF added.

According to reports, the result of the test by the entire Namungu delegation had returned positive.

But after consulting with Cairo, the CAF headquars, TFF confirmed later, in another statement, that the match had been called off.

“Caf has called off the match between Namungo and CD Dr Agusto.

“The matter will be be forwarded to the relevant committee for determination,” read the statement seen by Sports Africa.

Namungo are remaking a maiden appearance at the continental stage.

They are set to host the Angolan side for the return leg on February 21.
