Former Kenya international rugby player Alex Olaba was Thursday denied cash bail by a city magistrate in his attempted murder case with a hearing slated for 29th September 2022.

Alex Olaba and his fellow rugby player Frank Wanyama were in August 2019 arrested after being accused of raping an artist in Nairobi.

However, the two former Kenya Rugby Union players denied the charges, filed a statement at Kilimani Police Station in Nairobi stating that they had consensual sex with the accuser, Wendy Kemunto.

In her filings to the police, Wendy Kemunto claimed that she attended her birthday party in Nairobi’s suburbs of Kilimani where the two rugby players were present and took advantage of her on 10th February 2019.

The two were later released on an initial  KES50,000 police cash bail each and ordered to surrender their passports, meaning they could not travel outside the country for any rugby action.

Before the unfolding, Frank Wanyama was a Kenya Sevens player while Alex Olaba was playing for Kenya Simbas.

On 22nd April 2021, Alex Olaba was re-arrested by undercover detectives after allegedly plotting to murder a key witness in his rape case alongside compatriot Wanyama.

The two had been found guilty of the charges labelled against them and were sentenced to 15 years in jail in August 2019 before they were released on KES300,000 cash bail in July 2020.

Alex Olaba has since denied the filed murder conspiracy against him.
