Ayub Timbe’s dream of taking part in the 2019 Africa cup of Nations with Harambee received a major blow after the speedy winger underwent a successful knee operation.

The Harambee Stars forward, who is based in China, will be sidelined for close to two months as he recovers from a surgical procedure.

But the injury could be a big blow to the 26-year-old dream of taking part in the Afcon finals should he fail to get back his form in time. Timbe, who is yet to work with Coach Sébastien Migné, missed three of the Harambee Stars’ Afcon qualifiers as he was serving a ban by Caf.

With the surgery technically ruling him out of Kenya’s last Group F qualifier against Ghana, Timbe will need to work extra hard to impress Migne when he resumes training.

According to reports, Timbe will have to sit out for at least six weeks ruling out of the Beijing Renhe’s opening game of the season. “Successful knee surgery needs a couple of weeks to recover. I will be back soon, stronger than ever,” Timbe took to social media to announce the successful operation.

The speedy winger who is linked with a move to English Championship side, Reading Football Club, had a successful season with Renhe where he scored seven goals.

He joined the side from Belgian side Genk FC, but was sent out on loan only for Renhe to recall him in the second leg where he scored an average of one goal in two games despite operating from the flanks.

Kenya has already qualified to the 24-nation tournament set to be staged in Egypt from June 24.
