Kenyan captain Victor Wanyama is set to acquire a British passport in the coming weeks, according to British tabloid the Daily Mail.

This could make him among the many Kenyan players who now prefer to hold dual passports.

The Kenyan constitution promulgated in 2010 allows for dual citizenship.

The 28-year-old Tottenham Hotspur midfielder  put off a proposed move abroad last year to ensure he qualified for his passport after residing in the UK for over six years.

Wanyama started his UK career with Celtic before moving to England with Southampton and eventually reunited with Mauricio Pochettino at the White Hart Lane.

Wanyama captained Kenya at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, playing 90 minutes in three of the Harambee Stars group stage games.

The soft spoken talented midfield maestro is, however, expected to leave Spurs this summer following the arrival of Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon.

He has since been put on sale alongside Vincent Janssen, Kieran Tripper, Danny Rose and Serge Aurier.
