Kenyan international Michael Olunga is on the verge of writing another beautiful piece of history in Japan.

The Harambee Stars striker who has so far scored 19 league goals in the Japanese top flight, on Wednesday helped his side, Kashiwa Reysol to storm the final of the Levin Cup.

Only that this time round, the scorer was Japanese Tatsuya Yamashita whose header was the difference in a 1-0 victory over Yokohama Marinos.

The slim victory propelled Reysol to the November 7th final against FC Tokyo.

Should Reysol come out victorious, Olunga could become the first Kenyan player to win this trophy and his second silverware in Japan.

The 2015 Kenyan Premier League player of the year and the season’s top scorer, lifted his first trophy in the Asia Pacific nation last year with Reysol whom he guided to the top tier promotion having won the J2-League last season.

Before he moved to Japan, Olunga won two league titles with Gor Mahia, one Super Cup title each, with K’Ogalo (2015) and Tusker (2013). The same year (2015), he had a similar success in the Top 8 with Gor Mahia to add to his 2013 tip podium finish with Tusker.

Olunga moved to Japan from Chinese Super League side Guizhou Zhicheng in 10 August 2018 after a short loan spell with the La Liga side-Girona FC in the 2017 season.

The Kenyan has a higher affinity for football history.

While in Spain, where he spent just one year, he became the first Kenyan and the first Girona player to score a hat-trick in La Liga.

That was in his La Liga debut match debut against Las Palmas where he scored three goals in the span of 22 minutes during a 6–0 victory.
