Veteran Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez has completed his return to his boyhood club Nacional after 16 years away in Europe.

Suarez, who arrives as a free agent after parting ways with Atletico Madrid by mutual consent last month, will be tied to the Montevideo club until the end of the year.

“It was impossible to reject the chance to play with Nacional again,” the 35-year-old said Thursday in a video posted on social media.

“I hope to enjoy this new chapter and see you all in the coming days,” he added.

Suarez made just four first-team appearances for Nacional before earning a move to Dutch outfit Groningen in 2006. He then enjoyed prolific spells at Ajax, Liverpool and Barcelona before joining Atletico Madrid in 2020.
