Football Kenya Federation has suspended Zoo FC and Mathare United from taking part in the top flight league game until they sign the StarTimes endorsement letter which will see the pay TV take over the broadcasting rights.
The two clubs refused to sign the document and as a result they were locked out of the initial two rounds of the BetKing Premier League.
FKF have confirmed the two teams have 48 hours to sign the deal or get omitted from the league.
“The decision was made at the end of Wednesday’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at Safari Park Hotel,” FKF communicated.
FKF President Nick Mwendwa went on to explain why the decision has been reached:
“We have been very patient with the two clubs and done our best to convince them to meet their obligations in order to preserve the commercial rights of the league.
“While the other clubs have given us their endorsements, the two have declined to do so as the league enters match day three. The league cannot continue without the two clubs meeting their obligations.”
Ulinzi Stars have also not signed the deal. However, the vocal administrator explained why action has not been taken against them.
“The NEC considered the case of Ulinzi and noted that being a military team, they require certain processes to be followed. In that regard, we have given them until Monday at 5pm to sign the endorsement.
“Failure to do that will result in them being suspended from the top league.
