LONDON, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) — Tottenham breezed past Leeds United on Saturday with a 3-0 win to move back to third in the Premier League table.
Harry Kane opened the scoring from the penalty spot just before the half-hour mark before combining with Heung Min-Son who doubled Spurs’ lead a couple of minutes before halftime.
Toby Alderweireld’s header from a corner in the second half sealed a win which was only spoiled by Matt Doherty’s sending off for a poor injury-time challenge.
Arsenal smashed four goals past relegation-haunted West Brom with a 4-0 win away at the Hawthornes. West Brom went into the game on the back of a 5-0 thrashing at home to Leeds United, but any thoughts of a better defensive display were soon ended as Kieran Tierney and Bukayo Saka put Arsenal 2-0 up after just 28 minutes.
Two goals from Alexander Lacazette in the 60th and 64th minute completed the route to assure Arsenal their third win in three games.
Lewis Dunk’s 70th-minute header saved a point for Brighton in their 3-3 draw at home to Wolves in an entertaining match on the south coast.
Aaron Connolly’s 13th-minute goal from close range put the home side ahead, but Wolves roared back with a 19th-minute header from Romain Saiss, followed by an own goal from Dan Burn and a 44th-minute penalty from Ruben Neves which put the visitors in the driving seat.
Neal Maupay’s penalty for Brighton at the start of the second half gave the home side the chance of a point.
Jeffrey Schlupp’s fourth-minute goal and an excellent solo effort from Eberechi Eze gave Crystal Palace a 2-0 win at home to Sheffield United, who have now suffered the worst ever start to a Premier League season.
Friday’s Premier League games saw Bruno Fernandes’ penalty give Manchester United a 2-1 win at home to Aston Villa and take them to level with Liverpool (who play on Monday).
Anthony Martial put Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side in front after 40 minutes, but Bertrand Traore equalized for Villa in the 58th minute before Douglas Luiz’s clumsy challenge on Paul Pogba allowed Fernandez to seal the win.
Tomas Soucek’s 86th minute goal gave West Ham a 1-0 win away to Everton and ended the home side’s hopes of a fifth consecutive league win for the first time since 2014.
