The World Kickboxing Federation of Kenya in conjunction with Kasarani Liquor Board have launched a program of sensitizing the youth against drug and substance abuse in the community through sports and talent search.

Taking their campaign to Kamulu, Kasarani Constituency in Nairobi County on Friday, WKF-Kenya President Japheth Yahuma Adongo (Takid Master) and Kasarani Liquor Board Chairman Peter Chege promised to work as a team to fight drug addiction in the community.

The two leaders paid a joint courtesy call to Chapters Counselling and Treatment Center in Kamulu, a newly constructed facility meant to offer rehabilitation and counselling services to patients grappling with drug and substance abuse.

In his remarks, Takid Master urged the youth to avoid indulging in heavy drinking, smoking and involving themselves in any form of drug abuse. He challenged the young generation to utilise their time and develop their talents.

“We are losing a whole generation to drugs and alcohol. It is said out there that the youth cannot lead but you can see the commendable work WKF-Kenya, Kasarani Liquor Board and Chapters Counselling and Treatment Center heads are doing in the community,” he said.

“My office is open to such life-changing projects in our community, especially anything to do with eradication of drug abuse and talent development among our young people.”

On his part, Kasarani Liquor Board Chairman Peter Chege promised to work with the Nairobi County government and the national government to stop production and consumption of illicit alcohol in Kasarani and beyond.

“Nairobi City County government in partnership with the national government will join forces and fight unregulated alcohol in the city to save our youth from the point of destruction,” he said.

Chapters Counselling and Treatment Center Managing Director Julius Mwariri urged the local and national leadership to work as a team in the fight against the rampant drug abuse in the community.

“I call upon the local leadership all the way to the national government to move with speed and save this generation. Drug and substance abuse is wiping out a whole generation to the extent that streets are given names relating to drug abuse. We now have Zombie streets where the youth have lost hope and on the brink of destruction due to drug abuse,” he decried.

“I ask the relevant authorities to jump on this bandwagon and together we will cure the community and save it from the jaws of drug abuse. Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, kindly come to the ground and let us all end drugs and substance abuse in the midst of our young people.” He stated.

The tour culminated with a tree-planting session in Ndia Park, Kamulu where the same gospel was preached. The community was also taught on the importance of conserving the environment.
