Mainz midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin’s agent has revealed that Liverpool are interest in the defender.
Indeed, Bernard Collignon admits a raft of Premier League heavyweights have been tracking the 23-year-old.
“Last year (Jurgen) Klopp called Mainz and wanted to commit him as a center-back, who also helps out in midfield. But Mainz did not want to let him go in the middle of the relegation battle. In the summer, Liverpool signed Fabinho,” He said.
“I had meetings with Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal, Everton and many other clubs. He is on the shortlist. However, not as a top candidate, because his exact position is unclear.
“In my opinion he is a player worth €60m. It’s time for him to play as a centre-back. There he would be a top player in all four major leagues and would make a great career. At almost 24 years you have to make a decision.”
Speculation over Dejan Lovren’s future continues to rumble on after Liverpool placed a £25m pricetag on his head, hence the move by the Reds to look for areplacements.
The centre-back has proven to be a polarising figure among the fan base due to the levels of his performances and an injury record which leaves question marks over his reliability.
It has seen him move down to fourth in the pecking order behind Vigil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip; raising the question of if Liverpool would be best-served parting ways with the Croatian. He has been linked with a move o Serie A with AC Milan touted as favourites to land him.
