Casemiro saves a point for Man Utd at Chelsea
All of the action came in the last 10 minutes as Casemiro’s 94th minute header canceled out Jorginho’s 87th minute penalty for Chelsea on Saturday evening and gave Manchester United a point at Stamford Bridge.
All the pre-match talk had been about Manchester United’s decision to drop Cristiano Ronaldo for the game as a disciplinary measure after he walked off from the subs’ bench before the end of his side’s 2-0 at home to Tottenham on Wednesday.
But it was overall a dull game in south-west London until Scott McTominay was penalized for holding back Chelsea striker Armando Broja with just three minutes away.
Jorginho put the spot kick away, but Casemiro saved a point for the visitors when his looping header just crossed the line after hitting the far post in the fifth minute of injury time.
Erling Haaland added two more goals to his season’s tally, with the second coming from the penalty spot, as Manchester City won an entertaining game 3-1 at home to Brighton.
Leandro Trossard’s low drive after 53 minutes gave Brighton hope of a comeback, but that was snuffed out by Kevin de Bruyne with 15 minutes left to play.
Liverpool’s recovery came to an abrupt halt when they lost at home to Nottingham Forrest, who had kicked off the day bottom of the table.
Taiwo Awoniyi, who was released by Liverpool last year without playing a single first team appearance, scored the only goal of the game in the 55th minute.
Although Liverpool had over 70 percent of the ball and a host of chances, including one from Virgil van Dijk 30 seconds on time, Forrest held on for a vital win.
Everton got back to winning ways after three consecutive defeats by crushing Crystal Palace 3-0 in their best display of the season. Dominic Calvert-Lewin put Everton in front with a solo goal in the 11th minute and Anthony Gordon doubled the lead in the 63rd minute, before Dwight McNeil ended a good day at Goodison Park six minutes from time.

Liverpool end Man City’s unbeaten run as Arsenal beat Leeds in Premier League
Salah controlled a long kick from Alisson before turning Joao Cancelo and slotting the ball past Ederson to decide the game as Liverpool built on Wednesday’s 7-1 win away to Rangers in the Champions League.
City coach Pep Guardiola was left furious when Phil Foden’s strike was ruled out for a previous foul by Erling Haaland, while Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp was sent off after losing his cool when his side didn’t get a free-kick in the closing stages.
Liverpool came into the game 13 points behind City following their worst start to a season in ten years, but their defense improved considerably to take vital points that just about keep their title hopes alive.
Arsenal rode their luck to win 1-0 away to Leeds United to remain top of the league. Bukayo Saka scored the only goal of the game 10 minutes from half-time to give Arsenal the win in a match that was halted for several minutes when the referee lost contact with the VAR room.
Patrick Bamford had the chance to equalize for Leeds in the second half, but the striker dragged his penalty kick wide to give Arsenal a huge let-off that allowed them to extend their lead at the top of the table to four points.
Newcastle United drew 0-0 on their visit to Old Trafford in what was certainly a game of two halves. Newcastle had the best of the first 45 minutes, with Joelinton twice hitting the woodwork.
However, the home side reacted after the break and was the better one, with Marcus Rashford wasting a chance to give them all three points at the end.
Mason Mount scored twice as Chelsea enjoyed a comfortable 2-0 win away to Aston Villa, whose key players continue to misfire.
The England midfielder took advantage of an error from Tyrone Mings to fire into the bottom corner after just six minutes and doubled his account an hour later with a wickedly dipping free kick that wrong-footed Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez.
Declan Rice’s long-range shot in the 64th minute saved a point for West Ham on their visit to Southampton, who had taken a 20th-minute lead thanks to Romain Perraud’s deflected shot.
Both sides had chances to win the game in the closing minutes, while their goalkeepers made important saves.
Red-hot Arsenal beat Liverpool to retain Premier League top spot
Arsenal took the lead in the opening minute when Gabriel Martinelli latched onto Martin Odegaard’s through ball to beat Alisson.
Darwin Nunez scored from close range 11 minutes from halftime following a pass from Luis Diaz, who had to limp out of the game before the break, and Bukayo Saka took advantage of five minutes of injury time to put Arsenal back in front from Martinelli’s pass.
Roberto Firmino drew Liverpool level again in the 54th minute after a pass from Diogo Jota, but Jota then became the villain when he conceded a 76th minute penalty that allowed Saka to net the winning goal.
The win keeps Arsenal a point ahead of Manchester City, who continue to score goals with ease, as they brushed Southampton aside 4-0 on Saturday.
Joao Cancelo and Phil Foden put Man City 2-0 ahead before halftime, before Riyad Mahrez and Erling Haaland finished the scoring in the second half.
Harry Kane’s 33rd-minute header from a Son Heung-min cross keeps Tottenham third after a 1-0 win away to Brighton, who played well but lacked a cutting edge and saw their best chances denied by Hugo Lloris.
Chelsea continue to improve under Graham Potter and had an easy 3-0 win at home to struggling Wolves, for whom former Chelsea striker Diego Costa failed to make an impression.
Wolves defended well in the first half, but Kai Havertz put Chelsea in front in injury-time, before Christian Pulisic and Armando Broja sealed the win with strikes in the 54th and 89th minutes.
Manchester United ended a decent week by coming from behind to win 2-1 away to Everton, who took a fifth-minute lead through Alex Iwobi’s curing shot.
Antony equalized with his third goal in three games 10 minutes later, and Cristiano Ronaldo, who replaced the injured Anthony Martial, scored a left-footed winning goal a minute before halftime.
West Ham are also improving after a slow start to the season, with goals from Jarrod Bowen, Gianluca Scamacca and Michail Antonio scoring for David Moyes’ side after Andreas Pereira had put Fulham ahead.
Crystal Palace got a much-needed win with Odsonne Edouard and Eberechi Eze seeing them overturn Pascal Struijk’s opener for Leeds United, who have now gone five games without a victory.
Bruno Guimaraes scored twice as Newcastle United won 5-1 at home to Brentford, with Jacob Murphy and Miguel Almiron also scoring for Newcastle, who had help from Ethan Pinnock’s own goal.
Ivan Toney’s penalty against his former club was scant consolation for the visitors.
Leicester City remain deep in trouble after surrendering a 1-0 lead away to Bournemouth, who overcame Patson Daka’s 10th minute opener with strikes from Philip Billing on 67 minutes and Ryan Christie four minutes later to stretch their unbeaten run to five games.

Arsenal cement top spot as Liverpool held in Premier League again
Arsenal sounded out a warning that they have to be considered serious title candidates in the Premier League this season with a 3-1 win at home to Tottenham on Saturday.
Although the game was level 1-1 at halftime after Harry Kane’s penalty canceled out Thomas Partey’s opener for Arsenal, Mikel Arteta’s side dominated after the break.
A defensive mix-up allowed Gabriel Jesus to put Arsenal back in front four minutes into the second half, and their task was made easier in the 61st minute when Tottenham right back Emerson was sent off for a bad challenge.
Granit Xhaka assured the points for Arsenal with a powerful shot in the 68th minute and they now have a four-point lead at the top of the table, as Manchester City will play neighbors Manchester United on Sunday.
Leandro Trossard scored a hat-trick for Brighton as Roberto de Zerbi began his rein as coach with a 3-3 draw away to Liverpool.
Brighton started magnificently and only fine work by Liverpool keeper Alisson stopped it from being more than 2-0 after 17 minutes, as Liverpool’s defense struggled with Brighton’s excellent attacking play.
Roberto Firmino pulled a goal back for Liverpool before the break and then equalized 10 minutes into the second half, and an own goal from Adam Webster after some poor keeping from Roberto Sanchez put Liverpool ahead.
The game still had one last surprise when Trossard found space at the far post to equalize with seven minutes left to play.
Conor Gallagher was a hero on loan at Crystal Palace last season, but he broke his former club’s hearts with a 90th-minute winner for Chelsea to give Graham Potter a win in his first league game in charge.
Odsonne Edouard put Palace ahead after just seven minutes, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang equalizing in the 38th minute, and the game looked set for a draw before Gallagher’s winner.
Newcastle had a surprisingly easy 4-1 win away to Fulham, who were down to 10 men after just nine minutes when Nathaniel Chalobah was sent off for a late challenge.
Callum Wilson put Newcastle ahead just two minutes later and the visitors ran riot with Miguel Almiron scoring a screamer to double their lead. Sean Longstaff side-footed home from close range and Almiron added a fourth, before Bobby Reid headed home a consolation for Fulham.
Bournemouth and Brentford drew 0-0 in a result that means Bournemouth are unbeaten in four games since sacking Scott Parker, while Everton scored two quick goals through Conor Coady and Dwight McNeil in the 52nd and 54th minutes to come back for three points away to Southampton, who had taken a 49th-minute lead from Joe Aribo.
In the day’s last game, West Ham beat Wolverhampton 2-0 thanks to goals from Gianluca Scamacca after 29 minutes and Jarrod Bowen in the 54th minute. The result takes David Moyes’ team to 15th, while leaving Wolves 18th in the table.
EPL Saturday roundup – Merseyside Derby ends in barren draw as Manchester City held
Everton keeper Jordan Pickford made a string of saves to keep Liverpool at bay, with Jurgen Klopp’s side also hitting the woodwork several times.
Meanwhile, Everton also hit the post and had a goal ruled out for a tight offside, while Alisson also had to make some big saves to keep Everton out.
Everton remains winless, but coach Frank Lampard will be pleased as they continue to show the fighting spirit, while Liverpool risks being left behind in the title fight.
Manchester City also dropped two points when it was held to a 1-1 draw away to a battling Aston Villa. Erling Haaland’s 10th goal of the season put City ahead, but Aston Villa dug deep and Leon Bailey’s 74th minute strike gave them the reward, after Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez made two fine saves to deny Haaland his second goal of the game.
Chelsea came from behind to win a tight and controversial London derby at home to West Ham United.
Michail Antonio put West Ham ahead in the 62nd minute, but former West Ham player Ben Chilwell poked home the equalizer in the 76th minute.
West Ham hit the post in the 87th minute, just a minute before Kai Havertz won the game for Chelsea with a near-post finish. West Ham then thought they had equalized in injury time, but Maxwel Cornet’s effort was harshly ruled out when the VAR spotted a possible foul on Chelsea keeper Edouard Mendy.
Ivan Toney netted a hat-trick as Brentford won 5-2 at home to Leeds United, with Bryan Mbeumo scoring the fourth for the ‘Bees’ and Yoane Wissa adding a fifth. Toney netted a penalty and a stunning free kick to put Brentford 2-0 up, before new signing Luis Sinisterra gave Leeds hope. Marc Roca again gave Leeds a chance after Toney’s third but Mbeumo and Wissa assured a home win.
Daniel Podence’s goal on the stroke of halftime gave Wolverhampton a 1-0 win at home to Southampton, which was their first victory of the campaign and ended a winless run of 12 matches running into last season.
Newcastle and Crystal Palace drew 0-0 in what was another entertaining match where both sides had enough chances to claim all three points, while Bournemouth staged an incredible comeback from 2-0 down to win 3-2 away to Nottingham Forrest.
Forrest looked to be cruising in the game between newly promoted sides when Cheikhou Kouyate put them ahead in the 33rd minute and Brennan Johnson’s penalty in first half injury time gave them a comfortable lead.
However, Philip Billing pulled a goal back for Bournemouth in the 51st minute and Dominic Solanke equalized 12 minutes later, before Jaidon Anthony’s winner three minutes from time sent the visiting fans into raptures.
Man Utd v Arsenal, Merseyside derby highlights of Premier League weekend
The eye-catching Manchester United versus Arsenal fixture and the fierce Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool will be the major highlights of Premier League matchday six this weekend.
Everton have not won yet this season and although they have shown some resilience in recent matches, defeat to their neighbors would make life even harder for coach Frank Lampard.
Everton will look to young forward Anthony Gordon and new signing Neal Maupay to carry their attacking threat, while Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has to decide whether to throw Darwin Nunez back into action after the Uruguayan completed his three-match ban.
Manchester City visit Aston Villa, with Pep Guardiola’s men scoring goals at will and Erling Haaland netting consecutive hat-tricks.
That must be a huge worry for Aston Villa coach Steven Gerrard, who is another coach feeling the pressure. Villa’s defensive worries aren’t helping Gerrard, and with Diego Carlos still out injured, he needs to decide on his best pair of central defenders, otherwise things could get ugly.
Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel said his players needed to “toughen up” in the wake of their midweek defeat to Southampton, and although there is probably no more experienced defense than Cesar Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva and Kalidou Koulibaly, the trio will have to improve when Chelsea host West Ham United.
David Moyes’ side will offer full commitment and are recovering from a poor start to the season with four points in their last two games.
Newcastle United were frustrated by conceding a 98th-minute goal at Anfield in midweek, but Alexander Isak had an impressive debut and the Swedish international will try to take their frustration out on Crystal Palace when the two sides meet for what should be an entertaining game at St James’ Park.
Tottenham coach Antonio Conte could consider giving Richarlison a start when his side take on Fulham.
Fulham have made a very positive return to the top flight and Spurs will have to be especially careful of Aleksander Mitrovic, who has already scored more goals this season than in all his last campaign in the Premier League.
Leeds United visit Brentford, where they were able to save their top-flight status on the last day of last season. Both sides have made decent starts to the new season with just one defeat each, and another draw wouldn’t be a surprise here.
Wolves are starting to look in trouble with just two goals all season and no win in 12. Coach Bruno Lage needs Goncalo Guedes to start scoring and must be tempted to hand a debut to new signing Sasa Kalajdzic when his side face a buoyant Southampton.
Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest entertain Bournemouth in a clash between two newly-promoted sides: one of which (Forest) has spent a lot of money this summer, while Bournemouth haven’t.
Sunday’s big game is at Old Trafford as Arsenal seek to continue their 100 percent start to the season away to a resurgent Manchester United.
United appear to have put their 4-0 thrashing at Brentford behind them as Erik ten Hag slowly imposes his style on the team, and big money signings Casemiro and Antony could both start in what promises to be a thriller, with Cristiano Ronaldo watching from the subs’ bench.
Finally, Brighton are at home to bottom side Leicester City, with Tariq Lamptey in line for a start after Maupay’s move to Everton.
Arsenal stretch winning streak as Liverpool and City win in Premier League
Arsenal went back to the top of the English Premier League table with a 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Tuesday night at the Emirates.
Erling Haaland scored a first-half hat-trick as Manchester City enjoyed a crushing 6-0 win at home to Nottingham Forrest.
The Norwegian showed his effectiveness in front of goal with his second hat-trick in five days as his side demolished recently-promoted Forest in the opening 45 minutes.
Haaland’s first goal came from Phil Foden’s cross, while second was a tap-in and his third came from an assist from John Stones.
Joao Cancelo added a fourth in the 50th minute and new signing Julian Alvarez scored two more in the 67th and 85th minutes to complete the rout.
Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli both scored as Arsenal made it five wins from five to stay top of the table with a 2-1 triumph at home to Aston Villa, who had momentarily drawn level through Douglas Luiz.
Newcastle United’s record signing Alexander Isak scored on his debut to put his side 1-0 ahead at Anfield against Liverpool. Roberto Firmino leveled for Liverpool with his side’s first shot on target in the 61st minute.
Liverpool had over 20 shots in the game, but it wasn’t until the 9th minute of injury time that Fabio Carvalho scored the goal to give his side all three points.
The youngster smacked the ball home off the bottom of the bar as Newcastle failed to clear a corner.
Thomas Soucek’s 55th-minute equalizer saved a point for home side West Ham in a closely fought London derby.
Tottenham took the lead through an own goal from Thilo Kehrer, who deflected Harry Kane’s low cross into his own net.
Kane missed a chance to win in the closing minutes when he volleyed wide from close range.
Bournemouth showed personality after the 9-0 defeat away to Liverpool on Saturday and the sacking of coach Scott Parker as they dug in for a 0-0 draw at home to Wolves, who are still without a win and have scored just twice all season.
