A Congolese player who reportedly died four years ago, has been found to be alive.

And now Hiannick Kamba’s ex-wife could face a  lengthy jail term for fraud charges after she was paid insurance money following the ‘death’ of the former Schalke player.

Kamba, a former right back who played alongside Manuel Neuer at Schalke 04, was reported to have perished in a car accident in DR Congo in 2016.

But four years later, Kamba is said to be alive despite the fact that her former wife, whose identity is yet to be known, claimed his life insurance payout which is now the subject of an ongoing investigation in Germany.

The ex-lover, who was in Congo with Kamba at the time of his ‘death’, allegedly presented forged documents to get the six-digit payout claim.

Kamba, 33, whose family fled Congo in 1986, will be named as a witness in a suspected fraud case, according to German newspaper Bild.

The Congolese is reported to have submitted an application to return to Germany in 2018 where he works at an energy supply company as a chemical technician in Gelsenkirchen.

“She is accused of fraud, but she denies the charge. The proceedings are still ongoing.

“[Kamba] stated that his companions had left him during the night while on a trip to the interior of the Congo in January 2016 and they took his papers, money and telephone,” prosecutor Anette Milk was quoted by Bild.

At the time of his alleged death, Kamba’s club, an eighth-tier side VfB Huls, went ahead to publish an obituary announcing his demise.
