Kenya Power has suspended sponsorship to all sporting activities effective immediately.

The power firm has been sponsoring Kenyan Premier League team Western Stima and the National Super League sides Nairobi Stima and Coast Stima.

However, it seems it will not be business as usual as the company decided to suspend sponsorship to streamline internal affairs.

“I have just been informed that Kenya Power has suspended sponsorship to sporting activities,” Western Stima chairman Laban Jobita told SPORTS AFRICA.

“The decision cuts across football, basketball, and netball; it is a decision which we did not expect at this time. We are devastated by this news and disappointed as well. It is unfortunate, but I hope it will not last for long.”

Lack of sponsorship has hit the KPL hard this season; Sony Sugar were relegated after failing to honour three top tier matches while Chemelil Sugar have already given two walkovers.

Nzoia Sugar are also struggling to make ends meet same as the defending champions Gor Mahia and their arch-rivals AFC Leopards.

Whether the sides sponsored by Kenya Power will continue playing in their respective leagues remains to be known.
