AFCON Qualifiers 2023: Micho names Uganda Cranes provisional squad for Algeria match

Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin Sredojevic “Micho” has named a 42-man provisional squad for the side’s  forthcoming AFCON 2023 Qualifiers match against Group F  leaders Algeria in Douala City, Cameroon.

Among the 42 players, 18  are foreign-based while the rest play in the country’s local football.

Uganda Cranes will square it out  against the Desert Foxes on June 18th, 2023, seeking to secure their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations ticket.

The East African team is placed  3rd on their group with four points, the same as neighbours Tanzania and will later on play Niger in September.

TotalEnergies CHAN 2022 groups revealed

The  TotalEnergies African Nations Championship Algeria 2022 draw was done on Saturday evening in Algiers, Algeria.

In group A, host Algeria will lock horns with 2014 CHAN winners Libya, Ethiopia and Mozambique.

Group B features two-time champions Congo DR, Uganda, Cote d’Ivoire and Senegal. Group C includes defending champions Morocco, Sudan, Madagascar and Ghana.

Groups D and E are made up of three teams each and feature Mali, Angola and Mauritania on one side and Cameroon, Congo and Niger on the other.

The TotalEnergies African Nations Championship will take place from 13 January to 4 February 2023 in Algeria.

CAF delegation to visit TotalEnergies CHAN host cities and stadiums in Algeria

A CAF inspection delegation consisting of technical experts in various operational areas will visit the three cities that will host the TotalEnergies African Nations Championships (CHAN).

The particular championships will start from 13 January until 04 February 2023.

The inspection team will arrive on Thursday, 22 September 2022 in Algiers and will kick-off the visits the following day, Friday 23 September in Constantine.

The following day, Saturday 24 September – the delegation will be in Oran.  Sunday and Monday, 25 and 26 September, they will be in the capital Algiers.

The delegation will consists of technical experts from competitions, marketing, TV, safety and security, hospitality, protocol, medical, media and others.

They will inspect not just the stadiums but also a number of facilities and areas that will be used during the competitions including the hotels, hospitals and other areas.

CAF General Secretary, Veron Mosengo-Omba said: “With three months to the tournament, it is important we assess the state of readiness and give feedback to our hosts. In the last few months, CAF small teams have been visiting Algeria to inspect the venues but this inspection is a major one as it covers all aspects of the competition. The inspection team will report to myself and also our Executive Committee on the progress that is being made.”

He added: “We are also looking forward and preparing for the final draw on Saturday, 01 October 2022. The final draw is an important event in the countdown to the kick-off next year.”

Iconic Algiers  Opera House to host TotalEnergies CHAN 2022 draw

The Opera House in Algeria’s capital Algiers will host the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) Algeria 2022 final draw on Saturday, 01 October 2022.

This will be a major milestone in the countdown to next year’s CHAN to be hosted in Algeria between 13 January 2023 and 04 February 2023.

The Local Organising Commitee, working closely with CAF, has been working hard behind the scenes in the preparations for the competition and the official draw.

Built in 2016, the Boualem Bessaiah Opera House of Algiers has played host to major cultural events including major sporting events.

Sitting on a surface of more than 40000 M2, the Boualem Bessaiah Opera House of Algiers has capacity of 1300.

The hall is located in the western suburbs of the Algerian capital in the commune of Ouled Fayet (15 km from Algiers) and 30 minutes away by car from Algiers Houari Boumediene airport.

For the first time, 18 countries will participate in the event – an increase from 16 teams.

The participating countries are: Algeria (host country), Morocco, Libya, Senegal, Mali, Mauritania, Ivory Coast, Niger, Ghana, Cameroon, Congo, DR Congo, Uganda, Sudan, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Angola and Madagascar.
