Africa will have 16 slots at this year’s Magical Kenya Open Golf Championship, a European Tour challenge set to take place from March 18 to 21 in Nairobi, Kenya.
Hosts Kenya will have the highest number of players – 12 of 156 participants – from 30 countries that are expected in Nairobi with Nigeria, Uganda, and Zimbabwe all entering one player each.
Kenya which was recently voted the best golfing destination in Africa, will host another European Tour following the elevation of the Kenya Savannah Classic to the European status.
The Savannah Classic will take place from March 23 to 26, 2021, at the Karen Country Club, also the venue for Kenya Open.
Unfortunately, the two events will not be open to fans though spectators will have the chance to feel the Golf experience at the Sigona, Vet Lab, and Muthaiga Golf Clubs, where enthusiasts will follow the action live on TV thanks to Kenya Breweries who are the events beverage partner.
The events will be broadcast to millions of households on free-to-air television loally.
Kenya Open Golf Limited Director Francis Okwara noted that the decision to grant Kenya two European Tour events this year is a testament to the growing stature of golf in the country, adding that the doubleheader will give Kenya credence on the global golf scene.
