The race for the Kenyan Premier League promotion from the lower National Super League is a tight one with up to four teams in contention for the top spot with just two games left.

Wazito FC bottled up a chance to ease pressure after they lost by the biggest margin so far this season — a 5-3 defeat by Nairobi Stima.

Wazito are top of the log with 75 points, five above Ushuru who are fourth and four points behind Kisumu All Stars and Nairobi Stima, both tied in second place with 74 points.

Ushuru beat Modern Coast Rangers 2-1 but they must win their next two games and hope that the three teams ahead of them all falter in order for them to be crowned champions.

Only one team will be guaranteed an automatic ticket to the top tier next season. The second best will have to go settle for a play-off.

But it’s not only the battle for promotion that is lighting up the NSL.

Down the log, Thika United, who  played in the KPL only last season, are battling relegation to the division one.

Thika are just a place ahead of bottom placed Kangemi All Stars and below Green Commandos — both teams are in the danger of relegation.
